Preserving Our Yesterdays for Tomorrow

Unveiling a Hidden Gem

Woolsey is a small town with a rich history, located in the state of Georgia. Friends of Historic Woolsey has been on the lookout for old photos of the historic church, particularly ones that feature its steeple. We knew based on personal accounts that the church had a steeple, but we couldn’t find a photo of it. It was almost like the steeple was hiding from us!

Mort Sams sent us photos from the Bobby Jackson Collection. One of the photos, taken by a local resident, was not of the church itself but of the stores in the town. The steeple, standing tall and proud, was visible in the background. This photo provided a valuable piece of the puzzle, allowing us to confirm the steeple's existence.

This unexpected discovery serves as a reminder of the importance of looking closely at historic photos. You never know what might be hiding in the background, waiting to be revealed. So, grab your old photos, dust them off, and take a closer look. You might just uncover another piece of our town's history.

And don't forget, if you have any historic photos of Woolsey, we'd love to see them. They could contain valuable information or hidden gems that add to our understanding of the town's past. So, share them with us on our Facebook page or send them to our email. Let's continue to piece together the puzzle of Woolsey's history, one photo at a time!
