PRESERVING WOOLSEY'S STORY, TOGETHER
Founded in 2022 by local residents and descendants of Dr. Isaac Gray Woolsey, we are dedicated to preserving the historic places and landscapes that tell Woolsey’s story and contribute to Georgia’s cultural heritage.
At the heart of our work is the restoration of Historic Woolsey Church, an 1889 landmark that represents far more than a historic building. We are bringing this special place back to life as a welcoming community gathering place where people can learn, celebrate, connect, and share experiences through educational programs, cultural arts, civic activities, heritage tourism, and community celebrations.
By preserving this 1889 landmark, Friends of Historic Woolsey is safeguarding an important chapter of Georgia’s history while creating a lasting community asset for residents and visitors from Fayette County, the surrounding region, and Georgia.
RESTORATION IN PROGRESS
Historic Woolsey Church is being restored to continue its long tradition as a place of community, connection, and service. Through the dedication of volunteers, descendants, community members, and supporters, this 1889 landmark is being carefully preserved and prepared for future generations. Every step of the restoration helps protect the church’s historic character while making it possible for this special place to once again welcome people for gatherings, celebrations, educational programs, and community events.
Restoration is more than caring for an old building. It is about honoring the generations who gathered here, preserving the stories connected to this place, and protecting a meaningful part of Fayette County’s history. Together, we are restoring more than a historic church. We are helping ensure that Historic Woolsey Church remains a place where people can gather, connect, learn, and create new memories for years to come.
