Rooted in history and community, we are dedicated to preserving the past while inspiring future generations. Through the restoration of Historic Woolsey Church, we are preserving more than a historic building. We are restoring a place where people can gather, learn, celebrate, and connect through educational programs, cultural arts events, civic activities, heritage tourism, and community celebrations.

Welcome to Friends of Historic Woolsey. Founded in 2022 by local residents and descendants of Dr. Isaac Gray Woolsey, Friends of Historic Woolsey works to preserve the historic places and landscapes that represent Woolsey’s heritage and contribute to Georgia’s cultural legacy. Through grants, donations, volunteer service, and community support, our organization continues to advance restoration efforts and preserve this important part of Georgia’s history.

By preserving this 1889 landmark, Friends of Historic Woolsey is safeguarding an important chapter of Georgia’s history while creating a lasting community asset for residents and visitors from across Fayette County, the surrounding region, and the state of Georgia.

Historic Property Restoration: Built in 1889, Historic Woolsey Church is being restored as a future Community Cultural Arts Center serving Fayette County and surrounding communities through historic preservation, education, arts and cultural programs, and community events.
Cemetery and Landscape Preservation and Stewardship: Our mission at Historic Woolsey Cemetery is to preserve its rich heritage through grounds stewardship, monument conservation, and the identification and memorialization of unmarked graves. We are dedicated to honoring those interred here while protecting the cemetery’s historic landscape and oak trees.
Digital Living History Projects: Through our digital living history projects, we preserve and share the stories of Woolsey’s people, places, and heritage.
