Beneath the Aluminum: Woolsey's Original Beauty Revealed

The aluminum siding on the Historic Woolsey Church has been carefully removed, and what we found underneath is the original wood siding that dates back to the building’s earliest days. The aluminum siding, installed on the church in the late 1960s or early 1970s, acted as a protective shield for the original 19th-century wood siding. For more than 65+ years, this modern addition safeguarded the historic fabric beneath, preserving it for future generations.

According to Ryan Arvay, the underlying wood is in surprisingly good condition and offers valuable insight into the church’s original craftsmanship and architectural details. Uncovering this layer of history is a major step forward in our restoration efforts. Each board tells a story, and seeing this part of the building revealed after so many decades is a powerful reminder of why we’re doing this work.

Thank you again for your ongoing support; it’s because of you that we’re able to preserve and honor Woolsey’s historic legacy.
